Welcome to Track Waqas

Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog! Super excited to share my journey through the world of capital markets, particularly focusing on cryptocurrency.

Who am I?

My name is Waqas Rehman, and I am an Economics graduate currently working as a Financial Research analyst in an F500 company. Ever since joining the world of financial research, I have developed a passion for the capital markets, and have been toying with the idea of starting my own investment journey. My aim is to bring together my work experience, my quantitative skills, and my Economics knowledge to navigate the complexities of investing in capital markets.

Why crypto?

Crypto is very appealing to me for a few reasons. First, it offers the chance for huge returns—some coins skyrocketed in value in the last bull market (we all are now very familiar with the crypto-millionaire term). Plus, the market is open 24/7, so you can trade whenever you want, unlike traditional markets. There’s also the thrill of being part of something new and innovative, with blockchain tech shaking up the financial world. Lastly, I’m from Pakistan. Access to western financial markets is limited, and the Pakistani rupee tends to lose value consistently. Crypto is an easy-to-access hedge against constant inflation.

What to expect?

In the coming months, I will be posting about:

  • Macroeconomic analyses: All financial markets are driven by macroeconomic factors, which are imperative to understand and to use to our advantage as an investor. Therefore, the cornerstone of my analyses will be macroeconomics. I will be focusing particularly on the United States, as it tends to be the economy that affects crypto markets the most.
  • Technical analyses: Long term and short term technical analyses of the Bitcoin and Ethereum price charts. I tend not to dive into altcoins (99% of altcoins did not survive the last bear cycle), and neither into fundamental analyses.

Why not fundamental analysis? I have a secret. I don’t think cryptocurrency will actually reach mass adoption in the near future, and thus most of the fundamentals involved are hubris. At the end of the day, most owners of crypto are simply purchasing it for the investment opportunity, not because they believe it will end up playing a pivotal part in their day to day lives. Moreover, crypto fundamental analysis (unlike macroeconomic and technical analyses) doesn’t provide any learnings that I can take onto traditional investing.
  • My trades: What position my portfolio is in, what trades I’m taking and why.

Let’s get going!

I will be starting my journey with an investment of $1,000. I do not plan to invest more, for the time being, as this is more of an educational exercise for myself.

Remember, kids. Only invest in crypto what you can truly afford to lose.

Fingers all the way crossed. Here’s to hoping this adventure is a prosperous one! đŸ¥‚
